Back circa 1930s/40s, Mexico helped the U.S. WWII war effort by making these wings pins.
Pin is made of sterling silver with detailed wings and a propeller down the center.
The small pin measures 1 1/2 by 1 inch. Back has a secure ~C~ clasp. Marked SILVER MEXICO.
We believe these were made as 'sweetheart jewelry' to be worn by all the patriotic gals holding down the homefront.
Patina is not fully polished. Excellent vintage condition.
Provenance - This came from a little souvenir shop that had been in Times Square from 1930 to 1970 when we bought out the contents of the store from the retiring Mr. London. He had been there for 40 years, selling New York souvenirs and during the 1940s, he sold a lot of sweetheart jewelry to soldiers coming and going to and from Europe. As a new, just-opened antique / collectibles shop in Greenwich Village, we were thrilled to carry on Mr. London's legacy of selling meaningful chatchkies.
