This vintage miniature violin looks just like its life-size version. That's because it's a souvenir of Mittenwald violins, made in Mittenwald Germany.
The artisans in the town in Bavaria began making violins in the 1600s so Mittenwald became the place to go for violin making. The area high in the Karwendel mountains grew the maple and spruce trees that yielded very good tone wood, the kind suited to violins, cellos, and violas.
This pin measures a wee 2 inches long. It looks like wood or tin but appears to be made of hard plastic. The strings are metal. The end of the violin is marked MITTENWALD.
Slight wear to the black paint but overall in excellent vintage condition. Circa 1950s.
