You have to be an Odd Fellow for 50 continuous years of membership to rate this grand medal...a Veteran's Jewel.
The gold-plated medal is enameled with a white star on red spokes and a gold laureled background. The '50' is in the center.
The medal hangs from a short chain and a bar pin with the 'OOO' symbol intertwined. This represents the Three Link Fraternity, another name for the Odd Fellows, who are an altruistic and benevolent fraternal organization derived from the similar British Oddfellows which started during the 18th century. The U.S. order was formed in 1819.
The medal measures 1 1/4 by 2 inches. The back is unmarked. The number 50 shows a slight bit of wear but overall, this jewel really is a jewel. And maybe, since the Odd Fellows are so altruistic and benevolent, they wouldn't mind if someone gets this as a gift for a 50th birthday or anniversary.
