We love elephants. The news is good all around. The elephants are safe. Their tusks are no longer sold and their precious ivory is illegal to deal in. But then, what happened to the many world artisans who once carved ivory when it was legal?

The good news is that those talented carvers turned to other materials to carve. Mainly bone and horns from naturally lost animals...ox, cows, buffaloes, etc.

This necklace is hand-carved of bone in an amazing reticulated design in the shape of a butterfly with little flowers among the intricate work. The setting is silvertone metal.

The chain is strung with carved bone beads in two sizes, the larger ones are 3/8 inch wide and the small ones near the clasp are 1/4 inch. Two large decorative metal beads hold more reticulated bone carvings.

The necklace measures 20 inches around. The butterfly measures 3 inches across by 3 1/4 inches long. Screw barrel closure.

Excellent vintage condition. Guaranteed to be bone, NOT ivory. We, the carvers, and the elephants can sleep well tonight.
