Antique Victorian pretty lady cameo pins were popular to carve among the shell carvers of Italy. But the hand-carved shell flower pins like this one are harder to find.

This cameo features a detailed white flower design carved through the shell to the shaded brown interior.

The oval shell is set in a frame of gold plated metal that appears to be gold plate on sterling silver but when acid-tested, the metal tested for 10K gold. The back of the cameo shell has what looks like the number '14' hand-etched into it.

Pin measures 1 inch across by 1 3/8 inches high. It weighs 4.1 grams.

The back has the old original ~C~ clasp, purposely open just enough to push the pin through. The pin end also extends over the edge of the setting which is common among Victorian pins because they would stick the pin point into the fabric of the garment to keep it more secure.

The metal patina is unpolished and still retains all the charm and character of its 140 years.
