This Rajasthan antique cuff bracelet will NOT fit the average wrist. It would probably fit a wide wrist...male or female. But this was most likely made to be worn on the ankle or on the upper arm for dancing.
Made of solid sterling silver, the bracelet is hand-hammered with no flex to the curve. There are 9 silver bells (ghungroos) hanging from the cuff, all quite chatty with their internal clappers.
The bracelet measures 8 1/2 inches around the inside including the opening. The bells dangle 3/4 inch from the cuff. It weighs 40.3 grams.
Bracelet is unmarked but has been acid-tested at all points and is sterling silver. It's a wonderful old ethnic piece from the silversmiths of Northern India. Circa 1910.
(Could this bracelet be the origin of the expression "I'll be there with bells on."?)
