This vintage STRATHEARN art glass paperweight was hand made in Scotland. Because it was not mass-produced, it has tiny variations that make it unique and special, unlike any other paperweight. It's the reason that Strathearn paperweights have been so collectible for so many years, some going back to 1946.
You have one or two men working together, handling the hot liquid glass. They set the canes or the lampwork in a particular way on a molten glass base, and then they add more molten glass to it until they get the paperweight size that they’re looking for. In this case they must have been looking for deep turquoise blue petal forms that look like velvet, rising up from the clear base. The color is exquisite and with shading and zillions of tiny bubbles, the petals have a textured look.
Paperweight measures 2 5/8 inches high. It's about the same across.
Very minimal scratches at bottom. Overall in excellent vintage condition. NO nicks, dings, or other notable blemishes.
Original STRATHEARN - HAND MADE IN SCOTLAND paper tag is slightly age-toned but still intact. Circa 1970.
