They may be small but what a big history they have.

These Japanese Damascene cufflinks are the real thing. They were made by the Amita Jewelry Company of Kyoto who used non-precious metals inlaid with 18K or 24K gold. This intricate work was hand done by artisans and goes back to the Nara period (between 710 and 794 A.D.)

The cufflinks are shaped like a fan with a traditional blackened scene made with 24K gold embedded into the base metal.

The fan part of the link measures 7/8 by 5/8 inch. The attached oval half is embedded with the mark ~ K24 ~ and measures 5/8 by 1/4 inch. Backs are marked JAPAN.

Excellent vintage condition. Circa 1950s.
