This traditional Victorian mourning brooch is surprisingly heavy. It's an ornate pin with a coat of gold over brass and black enamel under the scrollwork. In the center, there's a little window with a lock of the loved one's hair.
The pin measures 2 inches across by 1 1/2 inches high. It's 1/4 inch thick. It weighs 24.3 grams.
The back has the classic long pin, made so the tip would tuck into the fabric. There are initials artfully engraved on the back...looks like L.W. TO E.A.
There are a couple of rubs to the gold on the back so you can see the brass beneath. There's a slight indent only visible on the back. The little glass window has not been opened/cleaned from the back in about 120 years so there's some collected 'dust' inside.
Overall, it's still a sentimental treasure...in very good antique condition.
