Along with the Masters of Mexican and Native American silver jewelry are the Peruvian silversmiths who created unique pieces like this one.
This vintage pin combines both sterling and 18K yellow gold in a cut-through design featuring a stylized bird. It's well-constructed using cutwork, piercing, flat chasing, and oxidizing, with applied 18K gold. The gold bird is solid gold, not plated or vermeil. There's no way to estimate the amount of 18K gold in this pin but it's a good amount in relation to the weight of the sterling. The pin weighs 12.6 grams.
The back is marked with the hallmark of the designer (can't quite make it out but it might be "Old Cusco" or "Old Cuzco"), 925 and 18K.
The pin measures 1 3/4 by 1 5/8 inches. The back has a secure rollover clasp. The pin has a beautiful patina that can be polished but we leave it to buyer to decide.
This striking vintage Peruvian pin is in excellent condition.
