Artist Eddie Breen, the idealized, artistic alter ego of Chris Sammartano, is just too much to describe. He's a self-taught artist and basically, what he does now, is take flea market and yard sale paintings that he considers 'boring' and 'spiffs 'em up' by adding elements that rattle around in his imaginative mind. He calls his art 'Piggyback Art', 'Improved Art', 'Reworks' or 'Congloms'.
This original painting by Breen, signed EDDIE, is an early piece, painted before the 'piggyback art' took over. This painting is titled
ALIENS DROP IN FOR A CUPPA JOE! It shows two green aliens having a cup of coffee with a man in a bathrobe as a rifle-toting man enters the room and says 'Excuse me - I thought they were hostile'. Not hostile, these aliens just need a cup of coffee as do most of us in the morning.
The painting is done on an 11 by 14 inch canvas board. The acrylic colors are bright and appropriately other-worldly.
Breen's unconventional art sells well and he has a following that includes a Texas rancher, government workers, teachers, more than a few lawyers, a McMurdo station worker (Antarctic), movie producer, ad agency guys, housewives, artists and lots of other off-kilter individuals (according to the artist). His naive 'whacked out' (artist's words) style has great appeal to many art collectors looking for the next hot thing. And nothing is hotter than a cuppa joe.
