NOT a repro...this pin is an original 1950s celluloid topped slogan that every cool, hip teen would use to show how cool and hip he/she was. It says SEE YOU LATER ALLIGATOR (to which the other hip kid would reply 'In a while crocodile'). Translated into English, they meant 'See ya' and 'Probably'.
The over-sized pin measures 3.5 inches across with a red border and navy blue on white lettering. Back is made of tin.
The phrase 'See you later alligator' probably originated from the song of the same name, written and first recorded by American singer-songwriter, Bobby Charles in 1954. The song’s popularity skyrocketed when it was re-recorded by Bill Haley & His Comets in 1955.
We still hear people say 'Later gator' and they're not all seniors so some things stay hip and cool decades later.
Pin is in unused excellent vintage condition.
