Canadian jeweler and metalsmith John Blair was influenced by ancient and modern ornamentation which is reflected in this set he made in 1991.
The sterling silver pin and earrings are cut-out with a unique intricate pattern and the center is inlaid with a high-quality genuine lapis stone.
The pin measures 2 inches across and has a secure rollover clasp. The earrings (for pierced ears) measure 1 inch across. The set weighs 19.7 grams.
Each piece is signed with Blair's JB hallmark and the pin is also hand-etched BLAIR 91.
Blair's work can be found in collections worldwide. He received the Alberta College of Art and Design Alumni Award of Excellence in 2002, and the 2012 Alberta Craft Council Award of Excellence. For Alberta’s 2005 Centennial celebrations he was commissioned by the province to make the ceremonial knife used by Queen Elizabeth II to cut the centennial cake.
Blair's work certainly takes the cake for exceptionalism. Set is in excellent vintage condition.
