This is an old Victorian pin, simply piled high with genuine natural red coral chunks.
This is good red coral, the kind that came from the Mediterranean Sea and was used in jewelry making during the Victorian era.
The pin measures 1 3/4 inches across by 1 inch high. The metal frame back has a simple ~C~ clasp.
It's obvious that the back is not as attractive as the front with its twisting wires that hold most of the coral in place. You can see some adhesive where coral pieces may have been reglued or fastened in place more securely. But it's the front that counts and it's an old piece, circa 1880s, so we can forgive the foibles of aging. We've made no attempt to clean up the back.
Offered as it is, old and very red and genuine coral.
