This original vintage cuff bracelet is a souvenir of the Century of Progress International Exposition. It was a World's Fair held in Chicago as The Chicago World's Fair from 1933 to 1934 to celebrate the city's centennial.

The theme of the fair was technological innovation. The fair's motto was "Science Finds, Industry Applies, Man Adapts", sending the message that science and American life were wedded. The architectural symbol of the Fair was the Sky Ride, a transporter bridge perpendicular to the shore on which one could ride from one side of the fair to the other.

The bracelet is made of hammered silvertone metal. At center, is the medallion logo of the Fair which says ~ 1933 A CENTURY OF PROGRESS CHICAGO ~.

Bracelet measures about 7 inches around the inside including the opening which has a little flex to it so you can get it on the wrist. It's 1/2 inch wide. The inside is faintly engraved C. L. H. No doubt, this bracelet would look good polished up a bit but since some like original patina left as it is, we leave it to buyer to decide. Excellent vintage condition.

Meanwhile...back to the Fair...

One description of the fair noted that the world, "then still mired in the malaise of the Great Depression, could glimpse a happier not-too-distant future, all driven by innovation in science and technology." Fair visitors saw the latest wonders in rail travel, automobiles, architecture and cigarette-smoking robots. The exhibition "emphasized technology and progress, a utopia, or perfect world, founded on democracy and manufacturing.

The fair buildings were multi-colored, to create a "Rainbow City" as compared to the "White City" of Chicago's earlier World's Columbian Exposition. The buildings generally followed Moderne (Art Deco) architecture in contrast to the neoclassical themes used at the 1893 fair. One famous feature of the fair were the performances of fan dancer Sally Rand. Other popular exhibits were the various auto manufacturers, the Midway (filled with nightclubs such as the Old Morocco, where future stars Judy Garland, The Cook Family Singers, and The Andrews Sisters performed), and a recreation of important scenes from Chicago's history.
