In the early 1990s, the jewelry designs of Alexis Bittar took off like a rocket. Who could resist earrings that soar like a kite?
These clip back earrings are made of a frosted satin Lucite, in the shape of a kite with golden chains 'flying' behind.
The earrings measure 3/4 inch wide by 3 inches long. The backs are painted / laminated gold with the ALEXIS BITTAR hallmark cartouche.
Earrings are in excellent vintage condition. Bittar's unique jewelry was made in short limited production which is why it's now high on the collector's list of names to look for.
A little history - Bittar had a short but very sweet run. From selling his handmade jewelry pieces on the streets of Soho, he went on to see his jewelry sold at Bergdorf Goodman who saw his work and agreed to carry his designs. Then came Saks Fifth Avenue, the Museum of Modern Art, and Harrods. Not a bad start.
In 1998, Bittar launched the first of what would become many designer collaborations, working with Burberry, the British luxury fashion house. Subsequent collaborations included legendary stylist and costume designer Patricia Field for Sex and the City, the Cooper-Hewitt Museum, Estee Lauder, Michael Kors, Jason Wu, Jeremy Scott, Michael Angel, and Phillip Lim.
In 2015, Bittar sold his entire company to Brooks Brothers and took up the pursuit of philanthropy. A success story in every way.
