This striking Napier necklace is shown on page 629 of the incredible humongous book (1012 pages!)...THE NAPIER CO. - DEFINING 20th CENTURY AMERICAN COSTUME JEWELRY by Melinda Lewis. This necklace was part of their MILANO Collection, made in 1988.
This collar necklace is made of heavy gold-tone metal at center with a twisted 'bow' that's enameled in midnight blue that looks black. The double strand of glass beads also appear to be black but the light shows their true color...midnight blue. A rich, elegant color.
The necklace measures 15 inches around. It's a collar...just the right fit on an average neck...not too snug like a choker. The center twist is 2 7/8 inches across by 1 inch high. The overall feel is substantial. Napier did not make wimpy jewelry. The look is modern and crisp and high quality.
The secure foldover clasp is signed NAPIER PAT. PEND. Back of the center is also hallmarked.
Excellent vintage condition. According to the book, this necklace had a retail price of $75 in 1988.
