If you like to interpret pins and what the artist was trying to convey, you'll have fun with this one.
It's mostly sterling silver with applied overlays made of brass, bronze, copper, and bezeled gemstones. They include lapis, carnelian, sun, stars, moon, and stubby people figures.
We're guessing this pin is a visual metaphor of the world. The bright orange carnelian is the sun. The people figures are the inhabitants of the planet. The blue lapis stone?...maybe it represents the blue sky and ocean. And of course, the moon and stars that complete our universe.
The pin measures 2 inches across by 1 7/8 inches long with the dangling charms. It weighs 9.3 grams. The back is marked STERLING with a sailboat hallmark. Could not trace it to maker but it's not a common one. We haven't polished the pin as the naturally aged patina of the metals looks kind of nice. Your choice to polish or not.
Excellent vintage condition. Circa mid 20th century.
