Victorian women loved jewelry...Queen Victoria was the inspiration for 'self decorating'. But most women could not afford those grand cameos made of gold and jewels.
Fortunately for them, many beautiful cameos were made of more accessible materials like glass and brass...and made with the same skill and passion.
This antique Victorian cameo pin features a lady's profile made of pressed white glass with gilt tinted hair and a green necklace. She's on a black glass stone set in a scalloped brass frame.
The pin measures 1 3/8 inches across by 1 3/4 inches high. The back has its original long ~C~ clasp which extends past the pin's edge. This was common on Victorian pins so that the pin's tip could be stuck securely into more fabric.
The glass is securely in its frame but is not totally glued in so there's some 'play' when you move it. Not going anywhere but a dab of glue by a handy jeweler will fix the movement.
Unpolished patina. Excellent antique condition. Circa 1880s. A beautiful old cameo for all queenly budgets.
