What did the parrot say to the monkey? We don't know but based on the bas relief odd couple on this old plaque, it might be something like... 'Come here often?' or 'Where'd you get your hat?'
The pair are sitting in a tree in white bas relief against the matte olive green background. They're both wearing hats. The monkey is smoking a pipe. The parrot wears a top hat with money(?) in his talons.
This wall plaque is marked with a number...8902...along the back rim. This is typical of continental biscuit porcelain made in Germany. It measures 5 1/4 inches each way. The back inner rim has some nicked roughness to the edge and some normal irregularities common to these handmade antique pieces. A bit of stubborn soil remains in the white dotted groves along the edge (at 8 o'clock). Overall, condition is still very good. There's a double hole at back for hanging. And the subject matter?...it might have reflected the German humor of the times.
