It's too bad we can't quite convey the experience of the SIZE of this pin. In person, it evokes an audible 'wow' because you can't NOT notice it and once you notice it, you gotta love it.
This vintage leaf pin is 10K gold-plated. It's minimalist in shape, realistic in its leaf-like veiny-ness, and frivolous with its three-prong flourish that includes a flat round disk and two 'floating' maroon gemstones.
The pin measures 4 3/4 by 2 7/8 inches. The back is signed LILLO. The only reference we could find to a 'Lillo' was William DeLillo who, with his partner Robert Clark, created limited production and custom-made jewelry in the 1970s - 1980s. His work was known to be 'sculptural art' and this would certainly qualify. But we can't be certain that he ever signed any pieces LILLO rather than DeLillo though this could be an early piece with the shortened name. Whoever made this brooch was artful, skillfull, and figured out that in this case, bigger is definitely better.
