The centuries-old art of Damascene involves engraving intricate patterns into steel and then placing hammered gold foil into the lines of the design. It's a painstaking craft but well worth the effort because the result is this beautiful vintage necklace.
It came from Spain circa 1950s (not marked but we have estate background on it). The links are etched with a design that's timeless... scrollwork reminiscent of the Arts and Crafts era. The gold stands out against the black oxidized background.
The necklace measures 16 inches around and the centerpiece is 1 1/8 inches high. The backs are finished off with genuine gold-plate. The clasp is a slide-in box. The necklace is in excellent condition.
