Lovely old Art Deco era necessaire tango compact. These wonderful little purses carried a flapper's necessities when they went dancing: a lipstick, money, cigarettes.. possibly a bus ticket home if the night was a flop. These are fabulous. This one is a great example. It has a black enameled wavy pattern to the exterior and the front is embellished with a sterling and marcasite escutcheon. The interior opens to reveal a mirror, area for paper money and a small lipstick can fit in the lid. The chain has enameled links and looks to be silver though unmarked. This is a nice quality dance purse and is in great condition with the exception of some tiny areas of paint loss on the outside. It measures approximately 3" by 2" by 3/4" thick. Most likely French or German in origin, circa 1925
