Exceedingly RARE and adorable Antique French stickpin. In all my years of collecting, I've not seen one in this material. The gold framework features a figural eglomise scene of a little cherub or angel reading a book. Heaven is represented by the clouds beneath our little fellow. Verre Eglomise (Ver Eg Lo MEE Zay) means glass that is gilded in gold on the reverse with an image. The technique dates back to ancient Pre-Roman times, but the term eglomise derived its name from a French decorator, Jean Baptiste Glomy who revived this ancient technique back in the 1700's. This scenic stick pin is even more special given the unique addition of mother of pearl to the gold within the miniature portrait. The colors are gorgeous.. luminescent against the black glass. The rose gold setting features four little balls and added little loops around the perimeter. One of the balls is compressed but hard to notice unless viewed from, the reverse. Unmarked. A charming and rare piece worthy of the finest stickpin collection. French, Circa 1830-1850
