Exquisite example of jasperware from the 19th century. An antique plaque featuring a young European couple on an outdoor outing. The quality and attention to detail is outstanding. Arm in arm, this charming couple appear to be heading our for a day of fishing. The young man has a net across his shoulder and the young lady is carrying a jug, wine perhaps. The two are lazily content in each others company. Really an alluring image. Highly detailed and beautiful in ultra RARE polylchrome color. Pink to the flesh. Cherubic faces. The diaphanous mint green clothing that clings to their bodies has a sheen to it further enhancing the details. Three dimensional pansies form the framework. It has a built in hanger on the reverse for hanging on the wall. Measures 5 5/8" in diameter. Excellent condition. Numbered on the reverse. Origin- Germany. Possibly early Schafer and Vater or Volkstedt. Very rare to find a colored piece like this.
