I am pleased to offer this Vintage carved Bakelite horse brooch. This "book piece" brooch appears in not one but two books: “Bakelite Pins” by Karima Parry and Jeanenne Bell's book "Answers to Questions About Old Jewelry 1840-1950" where a value of $395 was placed on it several years ago.
The artist has aptly captured this vibrant equestrian beauty, as she has a stylized mane creating a sense of vibrancy and movement. The color of the bakelite is a deep sienna red, just beautiful and it has some modulation of color giving it richness and depth. The horse is further detailed with a real chain bridle adorned by metal rosettes. Realistic yellow glass eye. This is a gorgeous and highly collectible piece that is sure to increase in value as you just don't see many of them.
The brooch is quite large at 3 1/8 inches high, 2 1/4" wide and it weighs 24.7 grams. The pinback is riveted in place and includes a safety catch. Condition is beautiful.
