A very attractive necklace with three dimensional large pendant featuring a plethora of individually wired on hand-carved mediterranean coral beads. The design has applied organic motifs of leaves and flowers reminiscent of Chinese designs of the same period. At the top and bottom of the central pendant there are also lustrous pearls of very fine quality and nacre. The link chain is very solid and features to decorative links that also have coral beads. One looks to have been wired on in a different fashion than the other. Don't know if this was intentional or a repair, but it makes the piece very interesting. I can tell that this necklace was treasured and well loved as the clasp became fixed as the tongue would not retract from the housing and someone cleverly added a spring ring to one of the loops keeping the necklace fully functional as it fastens just fine. The necklace is very well constructed and quite old. I would date it to around 1910-1915. A transitional piece. The necklace measures 17" and the central medallion measures 1 11/16" by 1 3/8". There are 37 2mm coral beads and two 3.5mm pearls. Unmarked. Gold tone. Nice antique condition. Would look spectacular with Italian coral grape motif earrings! Or please see the fantastic museum quality georgian earrings that I also have just listed (last photo)
