This vintage Mexican silver figurine depicts whimsical little bird which appears to me to be a tufted jay with his tuft of hair and long tail. This is a very well made piece. The artist has used some sort of instrument to etch the feathers creating a subtle matte finish effect. The body is an egg shaped piece of onyx and it is evident at the tail side that this was hand carved and then polished. A nice weighty piece of artwork. The talons are nicely articulated as well. It is marked Taxco Mexico, 925 and includes the artist's initials, MAH. He measures 3 1/4" high 1 3/4" wide, by 4 1/2" long. Condition is great... There is one area of discoloration on the silver that I have not tried to remove. I will leave this up to the buyer as I know that some people prefer to leave the aged patina in tact. There was a similar bird that sold at auction for $550 that wasn't nearly as pretty as this guy. So this is a great price for such a "rare bird".
