Wonderfully carved vintage bakelite brooch, circa 1930's. The color is a marblized green and butterscotch yellow. When held up to the light, the yellow area is transparent! A very rare design of what I believe to Hawaiiana .. some sort of Hawaiian flower like a Hibiscus, as it is quite exotic in its organic nature. It may even be a poinsettia. It is evident that this was hand carved with a great deal of skill from the artist. It is quite interesting to me that in the non-polished areas between the leaves that you can see each little etched mark left by the carver. This brooch is sure to make your heart beat a little faster, as it is really an outstanding piece of vintage bakelite and way above the quality that you normally see out there.. It is magnificent in size at 2 1/2" in diameter and 5/16" of an inch thick. Old safety clasp to reverse. There is also the remnants of a small disk shape where there might have been something else lightly glued to the back ( this is hardly noticeable..see pics). Condition is excellent. GUARANTEED TO BE VINTAGE BAKELITE AND QUITE RARE!
