This is an absolutely exquisite European jeweled dresser jar. Round in shape, this porcelain box or jar is encased with intricate French gilt ormolu in a basket or latticework motif to the sides, along with sweet little roses at the four corners. The top is embellished with chrysophase stones and mother of pearl forming a cross-section. The round shape of the box is reiterated with rose garland gilt ormolu mounts in the four corners. This is an incredibly rare dresser jar fit for a Queen's vanity table. I have never seen another with the porcelain base. Most jeweled pieces have a glass or bronze substrate. I am guessing by the design that this is either French or could quite possibly be Royal Vienna, but there is no beehive mark only an inpressed number on the bottom. Quite typical of antique European decorative art. Magnificent size at 5 1/2" in diameter and in excellent condition. You will not be disappointed, this is a superb antique box!
