Absolutely divine Chinese Cheongsam Mandarin dress in French Guipure lace and silk. This beauty was no doubt fashioned for a wealthy lady in the 1950's. It is exquisite both in design and color. The ecru lace gives the dress an antique feel and lends itself nicely to the lace detail. It was quite fashionable in the 1950's and early 1960's to have traditional dresses made in more "exotic or unusual" fabrics giving clothing the look of Haute Couture. Guipure lace is characterized by a three dimensional quality which makes the rose design on this cocktail dress really stand out. It is also sometimes referred to as Venice lace. The lace "floats" on a fine mesh ground. The lining is made from a fine silk. The Mandarin style features a traditional banded collar and side snap and hook closure. The dress is of short length but has a 2" hem which can be let out. The measurements are as follows: 32-34" bust, 28" waist and the length from shoulder to hem is 32 1/2". Probably around a modern size 6. The side zipper is 12" long. The lace dress is in remarkable condition with no issues. The dress has been freshly cleaned and is from a smokefree environment. The lining has been reinforced behind the snaps on one side (part of the original construction) and there is one tiny separation to the silk just beneath this area. A one inch split that will be repaired prior to mailing. This beautiful cocktail dress will not disappoint. It would also be lovely for a wedding other other special occasion. This style of dress is also lovingly referred to as a "Suzie Wong" dress.
