Offered here is a very rare pair of vintage English Farnell Alpha Toy dolls from England. The style is similar to Lenci dolls from the same era.. Farnell was no doubt a contemporary. The dolls are in remarkable shape considering they are 80 plus years old. The boy has beautiful curly golden fleeced mohair and the girl has blonde mohair braids. The girls hair is thin in the back but both braids are in tact. Original glue is visible in areas. Each has felt swivel head with pressed and painted facial features, painted eyes glancing at each other, both are blue-eyed with velvet five-piece body.. They are both wearing navy felt sailor suits and have their original hats.. She is wearing a navy felt skirt, he has on slacks, navy and white sailor collar with white shirt and felt trim to sleeves, plus anchor motif to neck of shirt, sateen ribbon to base of collar, white cotton underwear and socks, navy felt shoes (his are cream).. both have mother of pearl buttons, slight discoloration to felt in areas as these were well loved. The girl is missing her neck sash but this could easily be replaced by a clever seamstress. Please see the photos for the condition. Some rubbing to facial paint, darkening of felt from age and handling and some light mending to socks and other areas of clothing. Wear is commensurate with age . These dolls were well loved and taken good care of. The dolls measure approximately 17" high and come with display stands... A truly wonderful set as you rarely find the pair together. They have the with the Farnell's Alpha Toy Made in England label on the bottom of one of their feet.. According to page 152 in the book, "200 Years of Dolls: Identification and Price Guide" By Dawn Herlocher. The value of the pair is around $1500.
