Rare and wonderful pair of Art Deco era porcelain figurines by Moriyama of Japan. This set of semi nude maidens in mirror image is very rare. They are carrying bowls with a lotus type flower which lends to the exotic nature of the modelling. More than likely emulating Egyptian maidens, a popular theme in this period. They are exquisitely detailed. The pastel colors are lovely. Their skirts are a violet rose which is again picked up in the color of the flowers contrasting with the creamy white porcelain. The base is a French blue. They measure approximately 11" in height and are marked on the bottom. Condition is excellent. Fine crazing throughout which is commensurate with age. One small area of a glaze miss on the back of the base. See photo. Minor but mentioned for accuracy. Circa 1930... Very rare to find a pair. I have seen only one other pair and they are in a private collection. They are GORGEOUS! A spectacular find for Art Deco collectors.
