Beautiful Antique 23 inch SFBJ Paris 11 French Bisque Doll c.1900
SFBJ (Société Française de Fabrication de Bébés et Jouets; also referred to as S.F.B.J.) was the last of the great French doll making companies. Formed at the nadir of French doll making at the end of the 19th Century, SFBJ made dolls until the early 1900's with their painted bisque dolls. This darling doll is not painted bisque. Quality of the dolls varied greatly, from exquisite character dolls in the early 1900s, to souvenir dolls of painted bisque, composition and even celluloid in the mid 20th Century. In the very early 1900s, SFBJ kept the Jumeau name alive for dolls besides these early Jumeau dolls, SFBJ is best known for the Bluette, character dolls, and their early dolls such as Eden Bebe.
