24 inch Lenci molded felt face Chinese boy with painted Asian features, especially his slanted half closed eyes circa 1931. With replaced straw hat...
The short wig is black mohair with a long braided queue in back. His colorful all felt clothing features a black vest embroidered with Chinese language characters and a yellow jacket over matching long pants.
It appears that the Lenci designers didn't do their research regarding Chinese footwear, as he is wearing Japanese tabi socks and originally had Japanese wooden geta, which are missing, as is his round pointed straw but he has a replace hat and has a little piece broken at the very top.
His body is formed in boudoir doll style with long slender arms and legs having stitch jointing for posing.
Luckily, he still has his wonderful colorfully painted wooden Chinese lantern with paper insert.
This doll is shown in the 1925 Lenci catalog as Model 188A. The boudoir doll is more rare to find than the typical jointed child doll version of this Asian boy.
Marlene Dietrich was very fond of Lenci dolls including one of these Chinese boys. You can find a photograph of her with her Lenci dolls by doing a web search
There is some restitching at joints, some fading, I can't see a any moth holes.
This darling Lenci is clean and from a non smoking environment.
