Antique 19" DEP Tete Bebe Jumeau 8 with Marked Jumeau Body Bisque head c.1899
Beautiful 19" antique, circa 1899, French doll incised DEP 8 with Tete Jumeau stamp on the back of her head. These heads were made by Simon Halbig, imported by SFBJ and then stamped Tete Jumeau. Her French jointed composition body is correct and has some paint flaking here and there. The original factory label on the back of the body reads "Bebe Jumeau Diplome d'Honneur". DEP heads when found on Jumeau bodies are from the SFBJ era when the heads were made by Simon Halbig and imported by the French SFBJ company. The DEP in this case stands for Deponiert, the German equivalent of Depose.....both meaning registered or copyrighted and stamped Tete Jumeau by SFBJ.
This sweet girl has chocolate brown glass sleep almond shaped eyes with all of their mohair upper lashes, sculpted feathered brows, accented nostrils and eye corners, open mouth with teeth, and her original brown human hair wig. She is a lovely example of the DEP Jumeau which always has sleep eyes with upper mohair lashes and lower lashes painted in straight vertical lines. There is no damage, no repair to the bisque.
The dress is antique green silk with a lace overlay and trim around the sleeves. The silk is delicate in places. This doll is clean and from a non smoking environment.
