Maker and Age: Harrach (Bohemian); 1850s-70s
Details: This vase is especially intriguing in several ways -- first the square prism shape, as opposed to the more common cylinder used for vases; second the scenes depicted on each face of the prism, each one unique and rendered in gold gilt and dark maroon hand enameling; and third the distinctive four gold gilt covered circular applied feet, one at each corner of the prism. Each edge of the vase, the four sides, the base and rim, as well as each of the four rectangular faces is ground and polished. Each of the beautifully hand enameled scenes include one or two flying ducks with a different species of accompanying foliage including cattails, arrowhead, pond lilies and papyrus.
Dimensions: 7.75 inches high X 3.75 inches square
Condition: Excellent! Some gold gilt missing from the rim and feet. All the enameling in the scenes remains remarkably unworn -- as if the vase was always held by the rim and feet, allowing very little contact with the sides.
Shipping: The vase will be shipped via USPS Priority mail with insurance. International customers, please inquire about availability and cost of insured shipping to your location.
