Maker and Age: most likely Josephinenhutte (Bohemian); 1850s-70s
Details: The skill and beauty reflected in the cutting of this chalice is remarkable. The rim, the base, the ten panels forming the upper portion of the body, the eighty indentations forming the checkered pattern in the lower portion of the body, the eight panels decorating the clear glass foot -- each and every one of these parts is hand cut and polished. The solid ruby red glass itself is quite rare as it required gold to make the color. Gold gilt hand enameling further enhances the rim and the panels in the body and the foot. The chalice is especially heavy due to the nearly 1/4 inch thick glass. The checkered pattern cut into the lower portion of the body provides a gripping surface for safe handling.
Dimensions: 6.75 inches high X a little over 4 inches in diameter
Condition: Excellent! The clarity of the glass is outstanding and there are virtually no signs of use. The chalice must have simply remained on display for its entire life.
Shipping: The chalice will be shipped via USPS Priority mail with insurance. International customers, please inquire about availability and cost of insured shipping to your location.
