Maker & Age: Moser (Bohemian); 1880s
Details: This stunning hand blown chalice in topaz glass is a wonderful reminder of the meticulous attention to detail, from the overall design to the formation of each and every element of decor, that causes the Moser glass creations to stand out, not only in our time, but also among the other talented glass makers of the 18th, 19th and 20th centuries. Each of the concave diamond shapes covering the body of the chalice were painstakingly hand cut and polished by an individual artisan at the Moser factory resulting in a smooth, evenness in all the lines unlike the noticeable irregularities one would find in items produced by most other glass makers then and now. The same holds true for each panel shaping the stem and very thick, scalloped base of the chalice, as well as the 24! point star pattern on the underside of the base. Even the edges of the base are delicately chamfered/beveled. To top it off, a wide band of gold gilt enameling highlights the recessed ground and polished rim. Truly a chalice fit for a royal table!
