A fine pair of mid-nineteenth century Staffordshire flat back figures of a lady and gentleman on horseback, the latter bearing a British Antique Dealers Association (BADA) seal on the base. Figures are primarily white with gold accents, flesh-coloured faces, and black detail. Some crazing and slight wear to gilt. Male is 10 ¼ inches high, 7 ½ inches at widest point. Base is 6 inches by 2 3/8 inches. Female is 9 7/8 inches high, 7 ½ inches at widest point. Base is 6 inches by 2 5/8 inches. Provenance: from the former collection of Lady Brinckman, wife of Captain Sir Theodore Brinckman, Rockcliffe, Ontario. Condition: a tiny flake on the glaze on the lady’s horse’s ear.
