Framed “Hands across the Sea” Stevengraph of RMS Empress of Britain, sister ship to the ill-fated Empress of Ireland, of the Canadian Pacific Line. This was the first of three CP ships named Empress of Britain; she was launched from the builder’s yard at Govan, Glasgow. Postcard is woven in silk and dates from c. 1909. Postcard shows the Union Jack on the left crossed to the right with the Canadian Red Ensign (Canada’s flag from 1905-1921). Printed above the silk are the words "Hands Across the Sea" (HATS). Under the two flags a male hand and a female hand are clasped in a handshake representing the friendship between the countries. Frame is 7 1/8 inches by 5 inches and could use some attention. Fine condition (any shadows in postcard are reflections only). Please note: we also have a Stevengraph of RMS Empress of Ireland
