A highly dramatic piece with the Jacobs black eagle armorial against the white ground. Encrier or inkwell also bears a German university fraternity symbol for a fencing club to which Kaiser Wilhelm belonged. It was presented to a fellow student at university in Bonn in 1852. Excellent condition; gold trim shows virtually no wear at all.
