A gorgeous claret ewer with an absolutely stunning handle with a dolphin tip. Ewer is of robust, baluster form with a high neck, hinged lid, and S-shaped handle. It rests on a spreading circular base. The body is overall embossed with flowerheads, leaves, and stippled scrolls. It has a shaped, vacant reserve on the front below the neck, while the neck is engraved with four oval reserves separated by stippled sheaves. Hinged lid has a fruit knop and covers the lip. Beaded handle has a dolphin tip. It has a stepped and engraved, stippled base. Made in Sheffield, circa 1855. Diameter of base 4 3/8 inches; height to handle 13 inches. Item was re-plated in the past.
