An exceptional and rare dessert set for twenty-four in fitted 16 ¾ inches by 12 ½ inches by 5 ½ inches oaken canteen, circa 1890. The twenty-four 800 silver forks and twenty-four 800 silver spoons in the fiddle & thread pattern are 7 ½ inches long. They bear the marks for Koch & Bergfeld, Bremen. The twenty-four scimitar-shaped knives are 8 ¼ inches long with steel blades. All seventy-two pieces have Meissen “onion pattern” pistol-shaped porcelain handles. Condition: Spoons – 3 handles slightly loose, 1 handle repaired with silver, 1 handle chipped and cracked (19 in excellent condition). Forks – crack in one handle near ferule, 3 handles repaired with silver, 1 handle with a crack and flake, 1 handle with hairline crack (18 in excellent condition). Knives – 1 handle repaired with silver, 1 handle cracked (22 in excellent condition). Oak canteen does not close tightly. We love the way any broken handles were lovingly repaired with silver.
