18th Century Irish Sterling Silver Bowl by William Townsend
A rare Irish sterling silver bowl with lion mask legs ending in paw feet. Bowl is circular with shaped rim and fluted plain body. Triad initials G over I & M. Hallmarked: Dublin. Circa 1767. Maker William Townsend. Height 2 5/8 inches; diameter 5 3/8 inches. Weight 201 grams. Condition: This gorgeous old bowl comes with old repairs – 1 ½ inch repaired tear near leg to the right of the initials; a ½ inch repaired tear; and nine repairs (lead) to the rim. One leg is bent. Despite the repairs, it is extremely rare and it displays well.
