A work of art! An octagonal, flat-bottomed sterling silver teapot on sterling silver four-legged stand with a flush-mounted rising lid with stained bone pineapple knop with five-pointed star beneath and silver finial. Straight-panelled spout and wooden handle with upraised thumb-rest. Hallmarked London 1790. Maker's mark for George Gray over-stamping Hester Bateman's mark. George Gray's mark frequently overstruck that of Hester Bateman. It appears that the jeweler bought extensively from Hester Bateman and her successors, Peter and Anne (Grimwade, p. 528). Length 11 3/8 inches; height to tip of finial 6 ¾ inches. Weight 488 grams. Deep assay scratch, and scratched script "gg." & weight 14-16. Sterling silver stand 7 5/8 inches by 5 5/8 inches. Stand rests on four fluted legs. Height 1 inch. Weight 150 grams. Hallmarked London 1790. Maker's mark for George Gray over-stamping Hester Bateman's mark. Deep assay scratch and scratched "gg." Condition: There is an easily repairable miniature leak under the spout, otherwise our exquisite teapot and stand are in excellent condition commensurate with over 220 years of use.
