A classic French chest or dresser with marble top and shaped and beveled mirror was hand carved of walnut about 1900, there is a signature, "Sargente, on the back.
The original finish is very well preserved and has been waxed and buffed so all that is needed to maintain its warm patina is an occasional wipe with a soft dry cloth. There are mars at the edges and shrinkage separations from age for a little antique character, see photos.
The front is a graceful curve, side panels are raised. There is a professional repair on the red marble, which has been polished and sealed to resist stains. Drawers have hand cut dovetail joints and original solid brass pulls on this furniture from France.
Size is 48" wide, 21" deep, 7' 6" tall and the marble top is 44" high.
