A 1900 period genuine bronze statue from France depicts "Mignon," the heroine of a famous opera by Ambroise Thomas, who was kidnapped by Gypsies as a child and eventually reunited with her father.
Signatures are both on the pedestal and on the base, "Pierre Oge, (WInner of) Medaille de Beax Arts." Pierre Marie Francois Oge was renowned as a sculptor in bronze and marble, he was born in 1849 and died in Paris in 1913. His works of art are in numerous museums and collections in France and around the world.
This peaceful sculpture depicts the barefoot Mignon deep in thought, holding a tambourine. The dark chocolate brown patina is in beautiful condition. Size is 7" x 7" and 21" tall.
