A genuine Country French armoire or wardrobe from about 1760 was hand hewn of walnut and other fruitwoods with ash corner legs. Hand planing can be felt on every surface of this historic furniture from France.
Joints are secured with carved wooden pegs. The restored finish is in excellent condition, the lock and key work. The upper interior shelf is later. Wrought hardware on the hand dovetailed drawer and lift off hinges appear original. Shaped panels are hand chamfered. The crown is removable for easier moving. There are various restorations over the centuries, especially to the feet as would be expected.
Measurements at the crown are 68 1/2" wide and 22" deep, the body is 61" wide and 19" deep, interior depth is 15 1/2" and overall height is 7' 11."
