An authentic Empire period secretary desk with bookcase top was hand crafted about 1840. Mahogany with matched flame grain panels, the satiny finish is in excellent condition. There are mars and losses at the edges for antique character on this American made furniture.
The upper bookcase has a working lock and is separate for easier transport. Drawers have tiny hand cut dovetail joints. The writing surface opens and has saddle leather inserts, sloping up from 30" high at the front.
Dimensions are 44" wide, 21" deep and 76" tall.
